Pastor Gary L Hathaway is a native of Edenton, North Carolina. He attended Edenton Chowan Public Schools and graduated in 1976 from John A. Holmes High School. In 1980 he received a Bachelor of Science Degree in Business Administration from Elizabeth City State University, Elizabeth City, North Carolina. While a student at ECSU he was a member of the Alpha Kappa Mu National Honor Society and was awarded, “Who’s Who among Students in American Universities and Colleges.”
Upon graduation, he entered the insurance industry as a management trainee with North Carolina Mutual Life Insurance company. He worked as a trainee in Greenville NC, assistant manager in Newport News VA, district manager in Atlanta GA and Chattanooga TN. In 1987, he became a financial advisor with New York Life. He received the Chartered Life Underwriter designation from the American College, Bryn Mawr PA in 1992.
He accepted the call to the ministry in 1995 at Tucker Baptist Church under the leadership of the late Rev. M T Billingsley. He previously served as a trustee and deacon at Tucker Baptist He completed Theological studies at the International Seminary, Plymouth FL in 1997. He served as Senior Pastor of New Harvest Community Church from 2001 to 2013. He also served as an Associate Pastor at Hawkinsville Baptist Church. In 2015, he became the Senior Pastor of Tucker Baptist Church.
Pastor Hathaway is very active in the community having served various organizations. He currently serves on the board of the Christian Community Foundation, member of the Servant Leadership Christian Fellowship Council and National Association of Insurance and Investment Advisors.
He is married to Cathy Brown Hathaway, retired Postmaster, United States Postal Service. They have a son, Gary Anthony Hathaway.
