Pastor Jimmy D. Greer

 
The Reverend Jimmy D. Greer, Sr. is a native of Carthage, Mississippi, where the formative years of his education were received. After graduation from high school, he was admitted to Coahoma Junior College in Clarksdale, Mississippi. While in attendance at Coahoma, he earned the Associate of Arts Degree with a major in Social Science. Later, he matriculated at Tennessee State University in pursuance of the Bachelor of Science Degree, choosing a major in Political Science, a minor in History and was graduated in August 1972. Succeeding his call to the gospel ministry by God, at Friendship Missionary Baptist Church, Inc.under the pastorate of the late Reverend Moses Herring, Pastor Greer entered the American Baptist College in Nashville, Tennessee to further develop his ministry, having received a Bachelor of Theology Degree in Biblical and Theological Studies. He acquired his ministerial license in 1981 and was ordained in May 1982 by Pastor Moses Herring. Pastor Greer served as an associate minister at Friendship from 1981 to 1989. Under the guidance of the Holy Spirit, he accepted the pastorate of the Sylvan Street Missionary Baptist Church in Nashville, having pastored that congregation for thirteen years, succeeding the Late Reverend Moses Taylor. He was called back to his home church, Friendship, to succeed the late Pastor Herring in 2002.
 
Reverend Greer is a retired sergeant of the Metropolitan Nashville-Davidson County Police Department where he served more than thirty years as a patrol officer, criminal investigator, counselor and the first African American Chaplain.
 
Pastor Greer holds memberships in the Interdenominational Ministers’ Fellowship (IMF), Stones River District Association, Tennessee Baptist Missionary and Educational Convention, Inc., The National Baptist Convention, U.S.A., Inc., The National Chapter of the NAACP, National Black Peace Officers’ Association and The Fraternal Order of Police. He serves as Director of the IMF Peniel Initiative. Pastor Greer has been the recipient of numerous religious, professional and community awards.
 
He is married to the former Delores Baxter, and they are the parents of two adult children, Leatricia Allyce and Jimmy D. Greer, Jr., and the grandparents of Jimmy III and Jarquias Jimar.
 
God in his infinite goodness and mercy has richly endowed Pastor Greer with undaunted faith and visionary wisdom to fulfill the spiritual responsibilities necessary to do His holy will.
