Rev. Harmon E. Stockdale, Jr.

 

 

Rev. Harmon E. Stockdale, Jr is a native of Louisville, KY., and presently serves as the Pastor of the Kayne Avenue Missionary Baptist Church, Nashville, TN.  He is the son of the Rev. Dr. Harmon E Stockdale, Sr., and Johnnie Mae Stockdale.  Rev. Stockdale began his elementary education in the public schools of Louisville, KY., and completed his elementary education in the Gates-Chili School district, Rochester, NY, after his family relocated to Rochester, NY, in 1997.  Upon graduating from high school he attended the Florida A&M University, Tallahassee, FL., where he pursued the B.A. degree in Business Administration, with a minor in music.  He then attended American Baptist College, Nashville, TN., where he graduated with a B.A. degree in Bible and Theology.  Rev. Stockdale later attended Amridge University, Montgomery, AL., where he graduated with a M.S. degree in Human Services with a concentration in Family and Marriage Counseling.  Rev. Stockdale is currently working toward his second Master’s degree at the Turner School of Theology at Amridge University.  As an avid learner and a lover of education Rev. Stockdale, in addition to his role as Pastor, servers as a Substitute Teacher in the Rutherford County school system.

 

Rev. Stockdale has a broad and varied background of Christian experiences.  In New York, he served as the first President of the Junior Laymen’s Department of the Empire Baptist State Convention.  He also served as a part of the Music Department of the Mount Vernon Baptist Church, Rochester, NY, and as a part of the Music Department of the National Baptist Congress of Christian Education, of the National Baptist Convention USA, Inc.  In Florida, while attending FAMU, he served as musician and collegiate choir director for the Tabernacle Baptist Church and as a guest musician for a host of other churches around the city.  Upon relocation to Tennessee, he became the Minister of Music for the Corinthian Baptist Church, Nashville, TN, and later the Minister of Music for the Kayne Avenue Baptist Church of Nashville.  Rev. Stockdale has also served as the Congress Dean for the Stones River District Association of Churches and is presently serving as the Stones River District Association Congress President. 

 

Rev. Stockdale accepted his call into the gospel ministry in October 2013, and was licensed to preach by the Rev. Dr. Harmon E. Stockdale, Sr., on November 29, 2013, under the authority of the Mount Vernon Missionary Baptist Church, Rochester, NY.  On November 28, 2014, he was ordained into the gospel ministry at the request of and by authority of the Kayne Avenue Baptist Church of Nashville, TN.  In February of 2015 after having served Kayne Avenue Missionary Baptist Church as the Minister of Music, Youth Minister, Director of Christian Education, and Search Committee Chairman he was ask to serve as the Interim Pastor of Kayne Avenue Missionary Baptist Church. On December 20, 2015 the church voted and with overwhelming support elected Rev. Harmon E. Stockdale, Jr. to serve as its 12th Pastor in the churches 146 year history of serving the South Nashville community. 

 

Rev. Stockdale is happily married to the former Jennifer Keziah Gustave, and together they are the proud parents of three children: Jonnavon Earl, Hanese Rosa-Evon, and Harmonie Keziah-Theanie.
