Our Pastor – Rev. Dr. Major Stewart

 

Reverend Dr. Major A. Stewart is a man after the heart of God for the people of God. He is committed to the high standards the Lord has set before him to motivate God’s people to rise up, grow in grace and in the knowledge of the Lord giving Him all the Glory. (2 Peter 3:18; Matthew 28:18 & Deuteronomy 10:11)  

Rev. Stewart, a native of Muskegon, Michigan, where he excelled in football and wrestling. He received Jesus Christ as his personal Lord and Savior at the age of 13 years old. He accepted the call to the ministry of Jesus at 26 years old.  He was first licensed at Promise Tabernacle Baptist Church in Flint, Michigan. He served as Youth Pastor for several years at Promise Tabernacle.  Later, after employer relocation, Pastor Stewart was ordained to preach the Gospel of Christ at St. Paul Missionary Baptist Church in Oxnard, California, in 1995.  He served as Senior Pastor for almost 9 years at Gethsemane Baptist Church prior to the Lord’s reassignment to Mount Olive Missionary Baptist Church where he served until God planted him at Greater Mt. Sinai Baptist church, where he currently serves as Senior Pastor.  

Dr. Stewart is a Certified Instructor in the National Baptist Congress of Christian Education, where he teaches How To Minister to African American Males Youth. Yet, Dr. Stewart works to contribute toward his community as a member of NAACP, Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity Incorporated and a former Board Member of International Academy of Flint Public Charter School. Dr. Stewart developed an enormous passion for mission work under the leadership of the late Rev. Dr. Charles Walker (Nineteenth Street Baptist Church, Philadelphia, PA).  He traveled to Turkey and Asia Minor (tracing the footsteps of the apostle Paul) in 2001; to Monrovia, Liberia, on a mission team in 2005; and to Israel with a United Theological Seminary pilgrimage team in 2009.

Dr. Stewart earned a Bachelor’s (BBA) Degree in Accounting and Finance, from Eastern Michigan University, Ypsilanti, Mi.; a Master of Business Administration (MBA) Degree from California Lutheran University, Thousand Oaks, CA; a Master of Arts (MACE) Degree in Christian Education from the Michigan Theological Seminary, Plymouth, MI; and a Doctor of Ministry (D.Min.) Degree from United Theological Seminary, Dayton, Ohio.  He has also completed the Church Management Certificate program at Villanova University, Villanova, PA.

Rev. Dr. Stewart is married to Carla Brooks-Stewart, and they are parents of three daughters: Alexandria Janine, Mikaela Ann, and Karissa Danielle.
